With the rapid development of computer 3D processing power and the emergence of low-cost sensors, the technology of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) has advanced quickly in recent years. AR and VR technologies are similar, yet different, both include the areas of computer vision, graphics, image processing, sensor technology, displaying technology, and human-computer interaction technology. AR focuses on enhancing or augmenting the real-world environment we're in, with computer generated elements. AR brings developers new possibilities for presenting content in novel and interesting ways. Well-designed applications of AR bring value in making it easier to find information, providing information that make a task easier, faster, more efficient such as when a user can quickly, and easily try out many designs to see what they like best or when you teach users how to do something, making them more knowledgeable or better at what they do and by entertaining people. There are nearly endless uses of the AR applications in our personal lives and business. They range from education and training, travel, architecture and design, shopping, manufacturing, servicing etc. This practical session is designed to help participants to build their first Augmented Reality mobile app using Oracle JavaScript Extension Toolkit (JET) and AR plugins such as Wikitude Cordova plugin. Oracle JET empowers developers by providing a modular open source toolkit based on modern JavaScript, CSS3 and HTML5 design and development principles. Using AR plugins such as Wikitude we can embed augmented reality view into the JET mobile app to develop fully featured augmented reality apps including image recognition and tracking.
